YMCA Camp Bernie exists for the benefit our community. We believe that the chance to play, learn and experience the outdoors can have a lasting impact on children and adults alike. Our programs bring families closer together, encourage healthy lifestyles and foster profound connections for participants.
Our staff is committed to the community, through annual on-site events such as Winter Fest in February and Earth Day Family Fun Day in April. We are proud to offer programs such as swimming and horseback riding lessons. We encourage family camping over Labor Day, Memorial Day and our “Out All Night” camp.
We regularly attend community events in our surrounding area, from Lebanon Township’s Annual “Day in the Park” to street fairs in Washington Borough and Hackettstown. We know what the Y can provide to families, contact us anytime to learn more.
The YMCA has been shaping character for more than 150 years. Today, as part of the YMCA Character Development mission strategy, YMCA Camp Bernie, like many YMCAs across the country, has adopted caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility as our core values.
YMCA Camp Bernie’s staff professionals and volunteers accept as part of our jobs the role of character builders. We achieve these goals by encouraging our program participants to believe in positive values and to act on them with their daily choices. The goal is not to coerce people to do what is right only when someone of authority is watching them, but rather for people to choose to do the right thing because they believe in the values and want to do what is right.
We view ourselves as teachers of values and look for ways to encourage the people we serve to choose to do what is right. By participating in a YMCA Camp Bernie program, you too can learn to lead by example and strengthen our communities in the process.
