Adventure Day Camp at YMCA Camp Bernie is a thrilling, active day camp program for boys and girls entering grades K-11. Our weekly sessions allow campers to enjoy and explore everything our beautiful 275 acre facility has to offer. We believe that a camp experience provides children with the unique opportunity to try new things, and discover who they truly are. We will help children to make new friends, build memories and to challenge themselves daily.
Our day camp program is intentionally designed for campers to have fun while realizing their individual and collective potential. YMCA Camp Bernie provides an exciting, safe community for campers to enjoy the outdoors and build lifelong memories and friendships. Our incredible variety of activities allows campers to build confidence, try new things and have fun. A combination of personal choice activities and scheduled programming means that campers have the freedom to customize their experience.
Our staff are positive role models who are extensively pre-screened and trained to ensure that all counselors are mature, patient, skilled and responsible.
Activities including swimming, arts and crafts, basketball, archery, climbing tower, volleyball, canoeing, mountain biking and much, much more.
Today’s children face more stressful situations than we can imagine. Kids often react by indulging in unhealthy behaviors. As parents and childcare providers, we feel the need to protect them, but we must remember that our goal is to prepare them to be happy and productive adults. YMCA Camp Bernie focuses on helping campers to build the 7 C’s: competence, confidence, connection, character, contribution, coping, and control in order to better deal with stressful situations. Together we can raise successful children who will make their unique and substantial contributions to the world.

Horse & Pony Riding
Horseback riding is available as a component of our summer camp program, or through individual registration. We offer instructional lessons every weekday afternoon as well as trail rides through our property. Lessons include elements or horse management, from grooming to feeding the horses.
Dirtbiking is a unique riding program led by experienced instructors that emphasize safety. Our program introduces campers to the maintenance and operation of dirtbikes, in addition to proper riding technique. We have a selection of bikes, in a variety of sizes to accommodate different age groups and skill levels. Program will progress from basic riding on the dirtbike field to exploring the trail system around our 275 acre property.
Our American Red Cross certified Lifeguards help children improve their swimming skills throught the use of the National YMCA Swim Lesson program. Children are grouped according to skill level and guided through engaging activities to develop and improve skills. Swim Lessons are offered 4-5pm Monday through Thursday, with Friday reserved in the event of cancelation due to thunder.
Archery is a timeless sport, easy to learn and fun to master! Our USAA certified instructors will assess your child's skills and help them to improve their stance and techniques. Marksmanship games are incorporated to keep things fun and fresh. Archery Lessons are offered 4-5pm Monday through Thursday, with Friday reserved in the event of cancelation due to thunder.
Available in weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7, Thursday campouts give kids a taste of real camping. Campers will experience eating a cookout dinner, pitching tents, roating marshmallows over a fire to make s'mores, and playing evening games that just can't be done with the sun up. This is a great way to introduce your camper to the idea of Overnight Camp! Cabins are available in the event of foul weather. Friday breakfast is included.
Camp Bernie provides transportation to and from camp for a fee of $55 per family. Bus stops include Hackettstown Middle School in Hackettstown, Our Lady of the Mountain Church in Long Valley, and Valley View School in Lebanon Township. Check back here for any changes to Bus stop locations.
