



Experience the wonderful world of horseback riding on the beautiful 275 acre property of YMCA Camp Bernie. Our skilled and experienced instructors specialize in working with beginner to intermediate riders. Our emphasis is on fun and safety during all classes at the Camp Bernie barn.
Horseback riding is available as a component of our summer camp program, or through individual registration. We offer instructional lessons every weekday afternoon as well as trail rides through our property. Lessons include elements or horse management, from grooming to feeding the horses.
Overnight Camp Horseback Riding Program
(must be entering Grades 2-10 in fall 2011, and must be enrolled in overnight camp session)
Daily riding lessons will vary depending upon the designated skill level of the camper. For beginner riders, our experienced instructors will focus upon proper mounting, balance, walking and more. More experienced riders will progress to trotting and enjoying trail rides around our beautiful 275 acre property. Enrollment in this specialty program allows overnight campers at least 8 hours of instruction at our stables.
Pony Riding Program for Day Campers and the Community
(must be entering Grades K-2 in fall 2011, Available M-F 2-3p )
This program is a wonderful opportunity to introduce young children to the exciting world of horsemanship. Campers will learn about safety, riding skills, proper care of equines and more.
Horseback Riding Program for Day Campers and the Community
(must be entering Grades 3-8 in fall 2011, Available M-F 1-2p )
Participants in this program will experience a rotational schedule that will introduce basic safety, behaviors of horses, different riding positions and much more!
Horseback Trail Rides for Day Campers and the Community
(must be entering Grades 2-8 in fall 2011, Available M-F 4-5p )
Trail riding participants will be led on a 45 minute excursion through various trails on our 275 acre property. This program is for experienced riders and will have minimal basic skill instruction.
