Job Opportunities : Program Staff Click here to download a Camp Bernie Employment ApplicationProgram instructors are responsible for preparing and leading activities and lessons in their area of instruction; maintaining safety and discipline at all times; and supervising staff and campers in their program area. They will take on responsibilities of a counselor, provide leadership for activities, and perform other duties where needed.
Program instructors must be at least 19 years of age, have previous camp experience, and demonstrate teaching and leadership abilities as well as competency in their area of instruction. Additional certifications may be required depending on program area.
ADVENTURE INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Implementation of the adventure program including a climbing tower, traversing wall, high/low/and ASE ropes courses. Teaching and maintenance of equipment required. In addition this person works with evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 21. First Aid & CPR Certified. Climbing/high ropes certified instructor.
AQUATICS INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Lead instructor for swim lessons, assist the Aquatics Director in pool operations and programming. In addition this person works with the pond, evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 19. WSI, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and ARC or YMCA Lifeguard certified.
ARCHERY INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Implement all aspects of the archery program. Lesson development, teaching and maintenance of equipment. In addition this person works with evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 19. First Aid & CPR Certified. NAA certified instructor.
ARTS & CRAFTS INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Implement all aspects of the arts & crafts program. Lesson development, teaching, supply ordering and maintenance required. In addition this person works with evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 19. First Aid & CPR Certified. Experience or education with arts & crafts programming.
CANOEING INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Supervision and programming of canoeing program. In addition this person works with the pool, evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 19. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and ARC or YMCA Lifeguard certified.
MINIBIKE INSTRUCTOR (2) 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Co-Lead the implementation of the minibike program. Teaching and motorcycle maintenance required. In addition this person works with evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum Age 19. First Aid & CPR Certified. Experience with motorcycle maintenance and work with children.
MOUNTAIN BIKE INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Implementation of all aspects of the mountain biking program. Lesson development, teaching and maintenance of the bikes and equipment. In addition this person works with evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 19. First Aid & CPR Certified. Mountain Bike Safety course certified or extensive documented experience.
NATURE INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Implement all aspects of the nature program. Lesson development, teaching and maintenance of nature center and animals required. In addition this person works with evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 19. First Aid& CPR Certified. Experience or education in environmental programming.
SPORTS INSTRUCTOR 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Plan and implement all aspects of the sports program. Lesson development, teaching, and maintenance of sports equipment. In addition this person works with evening programs and all-camp days. Requirements: Minimum age 19. First Aid & CPR Certified. Experience in youth sports and coaching.
TRIPS COORDINATOR “Food & Equipment” (2) 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Assist Trips Director with scheduling, training, monitoring, transporting and programming for all out of camp trips. A great deal of organization and hard work rewarded by a great deal of freedom in the camp program. Requirements: Minimum age 19. A driver’s license and clean record needed. ARC or YMCA lifeguarding, Wilderness First Aid preferred, but will train. Education or experience in outdoor skills a plus but not required.
WILDERNESS INSTRUCTOR (2) 9 weeks - $1,800 – $1,900 Responsibilities: Assist the wilderness directors in planning and act as counselors for wilderness camp programs and off-site wilderness expeditions trips. Requirements: Minimum age 19. Wilderness First Aid certification preferred. Experience in multi-day backpacking and canoeing trips, and outdoor living skills.
